Sea Herring Industry Rep. Admits River Herring Are Caught & Sold

During the New England Fisheries Management Council Herring Oversight Committee Meeting that took place on May 17, council member and Atlantic Herring Industry Representative Mary Beth Tooley clarified for the committee that, "We've always had incidental catch of River Herring with Atlantic Herring that is not discarded, it's kept and sold.

We at Honest By Catch ask how this is possible when there is a prohibition on posession of River Herring in MA, where much of the Herring Industries catch is offloaded and processed.
